விவசாயத்தில் செழித்து திகழும் இப்பகுதியில், முன்னொருகாலத்தில் நாட்டில் மழை பொழியாமல் பஞ்சம் ஏற்பட்டது. இதனால், மக்கள் மழை வேண்டி இவ்விடத்தில் சிறிய பெருமாள் சிலையை பிரதிஷ்டை செய்து வழிபட்டனர். அதன்பின் மழை பொழிந்து மக்களின் பஞ்சம் நீங்கியது. பின் மக்கள் இவ்விடத்தில் பெரிய அளவில் கோயில் கட்டி வழிபாட்டிற்கு கொண்டு வந்தனர்.

அதிசயத்தின் அடிப்படையில்: இக்கோயிலில் யோக ஆஞ்சநேயர் தனிச்சன்னதியில் இருக்கிறார். இவரது வால், இரண்டு காலுக்கும் நடுவே கீழே இருக்கிறது. வாலில் மணியும் உள்ளது. பொதுவாக ஆஞ்சநேயரின் திருவடி, வால் தரிசனம் விசேஷம் என்பர். இங்கு இவ்விரண்டையும் ஒரே நேரத்தில் தரிசனம் செய்வது சிறப்பு.
