Grahayuddha Nivarana Mantra

ग्रहयुद्ध निवारण मन्त्र
Also known as: Planetary Conflict Protection, Graha Yuddha Shanti, Astrological Protection
§ 01
Origin & Tradition

About this mantra

The Grahayuddha Nivarana Mantra is a sacred invocation prescribed in traditional Jyotisha texts for mitigating the adverse effects of planetary wars (graha yuddha), which occur when two or more planets occupy the same degree or close proximity in the zodiac. According to the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (Chapter on Graha Yuddha), such conjunctions create intense energetic conflicts that can manifest as sudden upheavals, health crises, or financial instability in the native's life. The mantra is addressed to the Navagrahas (nine planets) as a collective, seeking their pacification and restoration of cosmic harmony.

Its beej-akshara (seed syllables) are derived from the planetary bijas—such as 'Om Grahaya Namah' and 'Om Shanaishcharaya Namah'—woven into a sequence that neutralizes the combative frequencies. The Mantra Mahodadhi (Chapter 7) describes similar shanti mantras for planetary afflictions, emphasizing the use of the syllable 'Hum' to dispel negative energies. Traditionally, this mantra is chanted 108 times during the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) on a Saturday, preferably at sunrise, facing east.

The ritual setting includes a copper plate engraved with the planetary symbols, offerings of white flowers and sesame seeds, and the chanting of the Navagraha Stotra from the Devi Mahatmya (Chapter 11) as a precursor. Benefits include the harmonization of conflicting planetary influences, removal of doshas (flaws) in the horoscope, and protection from sudden accidents or disputes. Cautions: This mantra should not be chanted during eclipses or on Amavasya (new moon) without proper guidance, as the intensified energies may amplify disturbances.

It is recommended to perform this sadhana under the supervision of a qualified Jyotishi or Guru, especially if the native has a weak or afflicted lagna. The mantra's efficacy is enhanced when combined with charity (dana) of grains or gold to Brahmins, as per the Navagraha Purana (Chapter 5).
