Maha Yantra Puja Mantra

महा यन्त्र पूजा मन्त्र
Also known as: Great Yantra, Supreme Geometry, Sri Yantra Puja

About

The Maha Yantra Puja Mantra refers to the set of mantras employed in the ritual worship of the great yantras, most notably the Sri Yantra (also known as Shri Chakra). The Sri Yantra is a sacred geometric diagram composed of nine interlocking triangles that radiate from a central point (bindu), surrounded by concentric circles and lotus petals. According to the *Lalita Sahasranama* (verse 54), the Sri Yantra is the abode of the goddess Lalita Tripura Sundari, who is the supreme deity of the Sri Vidya tradition. The *Mantra Mahodadhi* (Chapter 4) describes the Sri Yantra as the embodiment of the cosmos and the goddess herself, and prescribes specific mantras for its worship, including the Panchadashi (fifteen-syllable) and Shodashi (sixteen-syllable) mantras. The primary beej-akshara (seed syllable) associated with the Sri Yantra is 'Shreem' (श्रीं), which represents prosperity, beauty, and the goddess Lakshmi, while 'Hreem' (ह्रीं) is the beej of the goddess Tripura Sundari, signifying transformation and divine energy. The phoneme 'Shreem' combines the sounds 'Sh' (Shakti), 'R' (Ravi/sun), and 'Eem' (the feminine principle), invoking the creative and sustaining power of the goddess. The traditional purpose of chanting these mantras is to attain supreme protection from negative forces, fulfill all material and spiritual desires, and receive the direct grace of the goddess. The *Devi Mahatmya* (Chapter 11) emphasizes that worship of the yantra with proper mantras grants immunity from calamities and bestows sovereignty. Recommended chanting context includes daily practice during Brahma Muhurta (pre-dawn) or during specific lunar phases like the full moon. The count is typically 108 repetitions (one mala) using a crystal or rudraksha mala. The ritual setting involves a clean, sanctified space with the Sri Yantra placed on a copper or silver plate, offered with red flowers, sandalwood paste, and incense. Cautions: The Sri Yantra puja is considered a high-level sadhana; it is advised to receive initiation (diksha) from a qualified guru before undertaking the full ritual, as improper practice may lead to spiritual imbalance. The mantras should be chanted with correct pronunciation and focused intent.
