The beej-akshara (seed syllable) for Shani is 'Om Sham' or 'Om Shanaischaraya Namah', but the Gayatri form emphasizes the meditative aspect. Phonetically, the mantra contains the 'Sha' sound (as in Shani), which is believed to activate the subtle energy of discipline and patience. According to the Mantra Mahodadhi (a key Tantric text), this mantra is chanted for protection from misfortune, removal of obstacles, and to cultivate patience and karmic balance. The Devi Mahatmya also references the importance of planetary deities in overcoming adversities. Traditionally, the mantra is chanted 108 times on Saturdays, preferably during the morning or evening, facing south. The recommended count for significant results is 108,000 repetitions (one lakh) over a period.
