Siddha Kayakalpa Mantra

सिद्ध कायकल्प मन्त्र
Also known as: Kayakalpa, Siddha Rejuvenation, Body Transformation

About

The Siddha Kayakalpa Mantra belongs to the esoteric tradition of Siddha medicine and alchemy, primarily preserved in Tamil Siddha texts such as the 'Tirumandiram' by Tirumular and the 'Bogar Karpam' attributed to the sage Bogar. The term 'Kayakalpa' (Sanskrit: कायकल्प) literally means 'body transformation' or 'body rejuvenation', derived from 'kaya' (body) and 'kalpa' (transformation or preparation). In the Siddha system, Kayakalpa is a profound practice aimed at arresting decay, reversing aging, and ultimately rendering the body immortal or perfected (siddha deha) as a vehicle for spiritual enlightenment. The mantra itself is considered a beej-akshara (seed syllable) formula, often centered around the syllable 'Om' combined with potent sounds like 'Hrim' or 'Klim', which are believed to activate the subtle energies of the body's nadis and chakras. According to the 'Mantra Mahodadhi' (a key text on mantra-shastra), such rejuvenation mantras are classified under 'Ayushya' (longevity) and 'Vajikarana' (rejuvenation) categories, and they are traditionally chanted to purify the body's tissues (dhatus) and balance the three doshas (vata, pitta, kapha). The primary deity invoked is the lineage of Siddha Gurus, especially the 18 Siddhas (Pathinen Siddhar) of Tamil tradition, who are considered perfected beings with control over life and death. The purpose of chanting this mantra includes not only physical rejuvenation but also the attainment of a divine body (divya deha) fit for higher yogic practices. Recommended chanting context: ideally performed during the Brahma muhurta (pre-dawn hours) or on new moon days (Amavasya), with a count of 108 repetitions using a rudraksha or sphatika mala. The practitioner should observe strict dietary regulations (satvic food, avoidance of intoxicants) and maintain celibacy during the sadhana period. Cautions: This mantra is considered powerful and should only be attempted under the direct guidance of a qualified Siddha guru, as improper practice may lead to imbalances in the subtle body. The 'Shaktisangama Tantra' warns that such mantras require prior purification (diksha) and should not be chanted casually. The Siddha Kayakalpa Mantra thus represents a holistic approach to bodily perfection, integrating mantra, alchemy, and yogic discipline as outlined in the ancient Siddha scriptures.
