The Bhuvaneshwari Yantra Mantra is a sacred formula associated with the geometric diagram (yantra) of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari, the third of the ten Mahavidyas. Bhuvaneshwari is revered as the Queen of the Universe, whose name means 'She who is the sovereign of the worlds' (bhuvana = world, ishwari = ruler). The primary mantra, 'Om Hreem Bhuvaneshwaryai Namah', centers on the beej-akshara (seed syllable) 'Hreem', which is the bija of Bhuvaneshwari. According to the 'Bhuvaneshwari Tantra', this syllable represents the cosmic space (akasha) and the goddess's creative power. The yantra itself is a complex geometric pattern, typically a central dot (bindu) surrounded by concentric circles, lotus petals, and a square enclosure, symbolizing the expansion of consciousness from the unmanifest to the manifest universe. The mantra is chanted to invoke the goddess's energy for expansion, sovereignty, and cosmic understanding. The 'Mantra Mahodadhi' (a 16th-century compendium) prescribes that the Bhuvaneshwari Yantra be drawn on a metal plate or Bhojpatra (birch bark) and worshiped with the mantra for material and spiritual prosperity. Traditional purposes include gaining control over one's environment, removing obstacles, and attaining a state of universal awareness. The recommended chanting context is during the bright fortnight of the lunar month, especially on full moon nights, with a count of 108 repetitions (one mala) using a crystal or lotus seed rosary. The ritual setting should be a clean, quiet space, preferably facing north or east. Cautions: This mantra and yantra are considered powerful and should be approached with reverence. According to the 'Shaktisangama Tantra', improper use without proper initiation (diksha) may lead to disturbances in one's mental equilibrium. It is advised to seek guidance from a qualified guru before regular practice. The yantra is often worshiped during Navaratri and special tantric rituals, and it is widely revered across India, especially among Shakta and tantric traditions.
