Kundalini Maha Shakti Dhyana Mantra

कुण्डलिनी महा शक्ति ध्यान मन्त्र
Also known as: Maha Shakti, Great Power, Supreme Energy

About

Dhyana mantras for Kundalini Maha Shakti, the great serpent power, are contemplative verses used to invoke and meditate upon the supreme cosmic energy that resides dormant at the base of the spine. The textual origin of these mantras is found in various Tantric scriptures, most notably the *Kundalini Tantra* and the *Shiva Samhita*, which describe the nature of Kundalini as a coiled serpentine energy (kundalini-shakti) that, when awakened, rises through the sushumna nadi to unite with Shiva in the sahasrara chakra. The deity Kundalini Maha Shakti is the dynamic aspect of the Divine Mother, embodying both the creative and destructive forces of the universe. The beej-akshara (seed syllable) often associated with this mantra is 'Hreem' (ह्रीं), which represents the transformative power of Mahamaya and is central to many Shakta upasana traditions. Phonetically, 'Hreem' combines the fire element (Ra) with the sound of creation (Ha) and the resonance of the divine feminine (Eem), making it potent for inner purification and energy activation. The traditional purpose of this dhyana mantra is to facilitate the awakening of Kundalini, leading to spiritual liberation (moksha) and the realization of non-dual consciousness (advaita). According to the *Yoga Kundalini Upanishad*, regular chanting of such mantras, combined with pranayama and asana, can purify the nadis and balance the chakras. Recommended chanting context includes early morning (brahma muhurta) after a bath, in a clean and quiet space, with a focused mind. The ideal count is 108 repetitions (one mala) daily, preferably using a crystal or rudraksha mala. Ritual setting may involve lighting a ghee lamp, offering incense, and visualizing the serpent energy ascending through the chakras. Cautions: This mantra should be chanted only under the guidance of a qualified guru, as premature or improper practice can cause physical or psychological disturbances. It is not recommended for those with unstable mental health or without prior purification practices. The *Mantra Mahodadhi* warns that such powerful mantras require proper initiation (diksha) to be effective and safe.
