The Malini Diksha Mantra is a sacred formula used in the Tantric initiation known as malini diksha, or 'garland initiation.' This ritual involves the transmission of a garland of mantras from guru to disciple, symbolizing the unbroken lineage of spiritual knowledge. The term 'malini' refers to a garland, and in this context, it denotes a sequence of bija (seed) syllables or mantras that are strung together like flowers, each representing a specific deity or cosmic principle. According to the 'Mantra Mahodadhi' (a key text on mantra shastra), the malini system is associated with the fifty letters of the Sanskrit alphabet, which are considered the subtle forms of the goddess Tripura Sundari. The mantra is primarily connected to the Devi, particularly in her aspect as the supreme consciousness that manifests as sound. The bija 'Om' is often included, as it is the primordial sound from which all mantras arise. The purpose of this diksha is to awaken the disciple's latent spiritual potential (kundalini) and to bestow the blessings of the lineage. The 'Shaktisangama Tantra' describes malini diksha as a means to purify the disciple's subtle body and to establish a direct connection with the guru's parampara. Traditionally, the chanting of this mantra is performed during initiation ceremonies, often at specific astrological times (muhurta) and with a prescribed number of repetitions, typically 108 or 1008 times. The ritual setting includes a sacred space (mandala) and offerings to the guru and deities. Cautions are advised: this mantra should only be received from a qualified guru, as improper recitation without initiation may lead to spiritual imbalance. The mantra is considered a secret transmission and is not meant for public recitation without proper guidance.
