Raghunatha Bhatta Goswami Dhyana Mantra

रघुनाथ भट्ट गोस्वामी ध्यान मन्त्र
Also known as: Raghunatha Bhatta Goswami, Gaudiya Acharya, Six Goswamis
§ 01
Origin & Tradition

About this mantra

The Raghunatha Bhatta Goswami Dhyana Mantra is a meditative invocation dedicated to Raghunatha Bhatta Goswami, one of the six principal Goswamis of Vrindavan who systematized Gaudiya Vaishnavism under the direction of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. This dhyana mantra is employed for contemplating the divine qualities and form of the acharya, thereby invoking his blessings for advancement in bhakti-yoga. According to the Bhakti-rasamrita-sindhu (1.1.11) by Rupa Goswami, meditation on pure devotees is a powerful means to attain prema-bhakti.

The mantra is traditionally chanted to deepen one's understanding of the science of devotion (bhakti-shastra) and to receive the grace of the Gaudiya lineage. Raghunatha Bhatta Goswami, as described in the Chaitanya Charitamrita (Madhya-lila 1.220-221), was a great scholar and devotee known for his expertise in the Bhagavata Purana and his strict adherence to the principles of sadhana. The dhyana mantra typically visualizes him in a humble, peaceful form, holding a book of scriptures and a rosary, embodying the ideal of a renounced teacher.

Chanting this mantra is recommended during the early morning (brahma-muhurta) or before studying Gaudiya texts, with a minimum of 108 repetitions using a tulsi mala. It is often recited in conjunction with the Hare Krishna Mahamantra to purify the heart and cultivate devotion. No specific cautions are recorded, but as with all guru mantras, it should be chanted with respect and faith.

The mantra's beej-akshara, if present, is derived from the guru's name, invoking his svarupa-shakti. This practice is prevalent in ISKCON and Gaudiya mathas worldwide, especially during festivals like Vyasa Puja and Goswami appearance days.
