Raksha Yantra Mantra

रक्षा यन्त्र मन्त्र
Also known as: Protection Yantra, Safety Geometry, Guardian Yantra
§ 01
Origin & Tradition

About this mantra

The Raksha Yantra Mantra refers to a class of mantras used to consecrate and activate yantras (sacred geometric diagrams) for protection and safety. These mantras are drawn primarily from tantric traditions, as detailed in texts such as the *Mantra Mahodadhi* and the *Shaktisangama Tantra*. The term 'Raksha' means protection, and the yantra serves as a visual and energetic shield against negative forces, evil influences, and physical harm. The mantras typically invoke various deities, most commonly Durga, Narasimha, or Hanuman, depending on the specific yantra.

For instance, the *Mantra Mahodadhi* (Chapter 7) describes a Raksha Yantra dedicated to Narasimha, with the beej mantra 'Kshraum' (क्ष्रौं) as the central seed syllable. This beej-akshara combines 'Ksha' (representing destruction of negativity), 'Ra' (fire element), 'Au' (energy), and 'M' (bindu, the source of creation), creating a potent vibration for warding off danger. The *Shaktisangama Tantra* (Kali Khanda) prescribes a Raksha Yantra for the goddess Kali, using the mantra 'Om Kreem Kalikayai Namah' (ॐ क्रीं कालिकायै नमः), where 'Kreem' is a beej for transformation and protection. The traditional purpose of these mantras is to create a safe space, both physically and spiritually, by establishing a protective barrier around the practitioner or a designated area.

Benefits include safeguarding against accidents, evil eye, black magic, and psychic attacks. Chanting is recommended during auspicious times such as sunrise or on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with a minimum of 108 repetitions using a rudraksha mala. The ritual setting involves drawing or placing the yantra on a clean surface, offering incense and flowers, and reciting the mantra with focused intention. Cautions include the necessity of proper initiation for certain tantric mantras, as misuse may lead to adverse effects.

The *Devi Mahatmya* (Chapter 11) also references protective yantras in the context of the goddess's armor, emphasizing the importance of correct pronunciation and mental purity. Overall, the Raksha Yantra Mantra is a powerful tool for invoking divine guardianship, grounded in authoritative tantric scriptures.
