Shakti Chalani Mudra Dhyana Mantra (Final)

शक्ति चालनी मुद्रा ध्यान मन्त्र
Also known as: Shakti Chalani Mudra, Kundalini Awakening, Energy Movement

About

The Shakti Chalani Mudra Dhyana Mantra (Final) is a set of meditative verses chanted in conjunction with the Shakti Chalani Mudra, a yogic gesture described in classical hatha yoga texts. The primary scriptural sources for this mudra are the Hatha Yoga Pradipika (Chapter 3, verses 110–114) and the Gheranda Samhita (Chapter 3, verses 45–48), which detail the technique of moving the kundalini shakti upward through the sushumna nadi. The mantra itself is not found verbatim in these texts but is derived from tantric practices associated with the awakening of the serpent power. The deity invoked is Kundalini Shakti, the coiled cosmic energy residing at the base of the spine. The beej-akshara (seed syllable) often associated with this practice is 'Hreem' (ह्रीं), representing the sound of transformation and energy movement, though the final dhyana mantra may incorporate longer invocations. The purpose of this mantra is to facilitate the ascent of kundalini through the six chakras, culminating in union with Shiva at the sahasrara. Traditionally, it is chanted during advanced yoga sadhana, preferably in the early morning or at night, with a count of 108 repetitions using a rudraksha mala. The ritual setting involves a quiet, clean space, with the practitioner seated in a stable posture such as siddhasana, performing the mudra while mentally reciting the mantra. Cautions are necessary: this practice should only be undertaken under the guidance of a qualified guru, as premature or forceful awakening can lead to physical or mental imbalances. The Gheranda Samhita warns that improper practice may cause harm (Chapter 3, verse 49). The mantra is considered highly potent and is reserved for those who have purified their nadis through preparatory practices like asana and pranayama.
