Sri Vidya Sarva Arthasadhaka Dhyana Mantra

श्री विद्या सर्व अर्थसाधक ध्यान मन्त्र
Also known as: Sarva Arthasadhaka, Accomplisher of All Goals, Fifth Avarana

About

The Sri Vidya Sarva Arthasadhaka Dhyana Mantra is a contemplative verse associated with the fifth enclosure (āvaraṇa) of the Śrī Yantra, a central diagram in Śrī Vidyā upāsanā. This enclosure is presided over by the goddess Sarvārthasādhakā, whose name means 'the accomplisher of all goals.' The mantra is used for meditation on this deity, who is believed to grant success in all endeavors and fulfill every legitimate aspiration. According to the 'Śrī Vidyā Ratna Sūtra' and the 'Tantrarāja Tantra', the fifth āvaraṇa represents the power of accomplishment (siddhi) and is associated with the element of earth (pṛthvī) and the sense of smell (ghrāṇa). The dhyāna mantra typically describes the form of the goddess, who is depicted as four-armed, holding a noose, goad, book, and abhaya mudrā, seated on a lotus, and radiating a golden hue. The beejākṣara (seed syllable) for this enclosure is 'hrīm' (ह्रीं), which combines the sounds 'ha', 'ra', 'ī', and 'm' with a nasalization, representing the union of Śiva and Śakti. Chanting this mantra is said to remove obstacles and bring about the successful completion of any undertaking, whether material or spiritual. The recommended practice is to recite the mantra 108 times daily, preferably in the morning after bathing, facing east, and using a rudrākṣa or sphāṭika mālā. It is particularly potent during the waxing moon phase and on Fridays. The 'Śrī Vidyā Navāvaraṇa Pūjā' prescribes this mantra for the fifth day of the Navarātri worship. Cautions include the need for proper initiation (dīkṣā) from a qualified guru, as the mantra belongs to the tantric tradition and involves potent energies. Without guidance, improper recitation may lead to unintended consequences. The mantra should be chanted with clear pronunciation and focused intention, avoiding distractions. It is also advised to maintain a sāttvic diet and purity of mind during the practice. This dhyāna mantra is a key component of the Śrī Vidyā tradition, which is widely practiced in South India and among Śrī Vidyā practitioners globally.
