Tantra Diksha Dhyana Mantra (Final)

तन्त्र दीक्षा ध्यान मन्त्र
Also known as: Tantra Diksha, Initiation, Transmission

About

The Tantra Diksha Dhyana Mantra (Final) is a meditative chant employed during the culminating phase of tantric initiation (diksha). Its textual origins lie in the corpus of Tantras, particularly the Diksha texts such as the Tantraraja Tantra and the Shaktisangama Tantra, which detail the procedures for transmitting spiritual power (shaktipata) from guru to disciple. The mantra is associated with the deity Guru, who is considered a manifestation of Shiva and Shakti, embodying the union of consciousness and energy. In the tradition of the Mantra Mahodadhi, the beej-akshara (seed syllable) 'Om' is central, representing the primordial sound from which all creation emanates; its phoneme 'O' is a diphthong combining 'a' and 'u', symbolizing the union of Shiva and Shakti, while the nasal 'm' (anusvara) signifies the dissolution of duality. The traditional purpose of this mantra is to facilitate the disciple's contemplation of the transmission of power, to invoke the grace of the guru, and to awaken the disciple's latent spiritual potential through initiation. According to the Diksha texts, chanting this mantra with focused visualization (dhyana) helps purify the disciple's subtle body, align the chakras, and establish a direct connection with the guru's lineage. Recommended chanting context includes performing the mantra during the auspicious time of brahma muhurta (pre-dawn) or during a solar eclipse, when spiritual energies are heightened. The count is traditionally 108 repetitions (one mala) using a rudraksha mala, repeated for a minimum of 21 days. The ritual setting should be a clean, secluded space with a yantra or image of the guru, and offerings of incense, lamp, and flowers. Cautions include the necessity of receiving the mantra directly from a qualified guru; chanting without proper initiation is considered ineffective and potentially disruptive. Additionally, the practitioner must adhere to strict ethical conduct (yama and niyama) and avoid meat, alcohol, and sexual activity during the practice period. The mantra is not recommended for those with mental instability or without prior tantric guidance.
