Tantra Kundalini Dhyana Mantra

तन्त्र कुण्डलिनी ध्यान मन्त्र
Also known as: Tantra Kundalini, Shakti, Mahavidya

About

The Tantra Kundalini Dhyana Mantra is a meditative invocation used within the Shakta Tantric tradition for the awakening of Kundalini Shakti, the primordial serpent power coiled at the base of the spine. This mantra is primarily associated with the Mahavidyas, the ten wisdom goddesses who embody aspects of the Divine Mother, as described in texts such as the *Shaktisangama Tantra* and the *Mantra Mahodadhi*. The practice aims to rouse the dormant Kundalini through the central sushumna nadi, leading to the union of Shiva and Shakti at the sahasrara chakra. The mantra often incorporates the beej-akshara 'Klim' or 'Hrim', which are bija syllables that resonate with transformative energy; 'Klim' is associated with attraction and spiritual magnetism, while 'Hrim' represents the illuminating power of the sun and the goddess Bhuvaneshvari. According to the *Kundalini Upanishad* and *Yoga-Kundalini Upanishad*, the dhyana (meditation) aspect of this mantra involves visualizing the serpentine goddess as a coiled, luminous serpent at the muladhara chakra, surrounded by a halo of fire and light. The traditional purpose of this mantra is to purify the nadis, balance the chakras, and ultimately achieve liberation (moksha) through the ascent of Kundalini. It is chanted during specific Tantric rituals, often at dawn or midnight, in a secluded space, with a mala of 108 repetitions. Practitioners are advised to perform this sadhana under the guidance of a qualified guru, as improper practice can lead to physical or mental imbalances. The mantra is also used in conjunction with yantra meditation, particularly the Sri Yantra or the Mahavidya yantras, to amplify its effects. Cautions include avoiding meat, intoxicants, and sexual activity during intensive practice, as per the *Tantrasara*. This mantra is especially revered in the regions of Bengal and Assam, where Tantric traditions are deeply rooted.
