Tantra Shastra Dhyana Mantra (Final)

तन्त्र शास्त्र ध्यान मन्त्र
Also known as: Tantra Shastra, Science of Ritual, Tantric Texts

About

The Tantra Shastra Dhyana Mantra (Final) is a meditative invocation used by practitioners to internalize the essence of Tantra Shastra, the vast corpus of texts that expound the tantric path. The term 'Tantra' derives from the root 'tan' (to expand) and 'tra' (to liberate), signifying a system that expands consciousness and leads to liberation. This mantra is not tied to a single deity but rather to the principle of Shiva-Shakti, the dynamic union of consciousness and energy that underlies all tantric practice. According to the 'Mantra Mahodadhi' (a key compendium of mantras), dhyana mantras serve to focus the mind on the formless aspects of the divine, often visualized as a radiant light or a yantra. The 'Shaktisangama Tantra' emphasizes that such mantras purify the subtle channels (nadis) and awaken the dormant kundalini energy. The beej-akshara (seed syllable) 'Om' is central, representing the primordial vibration; it is often combined with 'Hrim' or 'Klim' to invoke the Shakti aspect. Phonetically, the mantra's resonance aligns with the chakras, particularly the ajna (third eye) and sahasrara (crown), facilitating deep meditation. Traditionally, this mantra is chanted for the contemplation of Tantric philosophy, for the knowledge of Tantric rituals, and for the mastery of the path of Tantra. It is recommended to chant 108 times during the brahma muhurta (pre-dawn hours) or at dusk, facing east, with a clear intention to study the Tantras. A ritual setting may include a yantra (such as the Sri Yantra) and offerings of red flowers or incense. Cautions: This mantra should only be chanted after proper initiation (diksha) from a qualified guru, as per the 'Tantraraja Tantra', which warns that unguided practice can lead to imbalance. It is not for casual use but for sincere seekers on the tantric path.
