Anima Siddhi Mantra

अणिमा सिद्धि मन्त्र
Also known as: Minimization, Atomization, Becoming Small
§ 01
Origin & Tradition

About this mantra

The Anima Siddhi Mantra is a sacred formula for attaining anima, one of the eight classical siddhis (supernatural powers) described in yogic and tantric traditions. Anima is the power to reduce one's physical form to the size of an atom, enabling invisibility and the ability to enter even the most confined spaces. This siddhi is enumerated in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (3.45) as one of the eight siddhis arising from mastery over the elements. The mantra is traditionally associated with Lord Shiva, who as the supreme yogi embodies all siddhis, and with Hanuman, who is renowned for his ability to assume any size at will, as narrated in the Ramayana.

The beej-akshara (seed syllable) often employed in such mantras is 'Om', representing the primordial vibration, and may be combined with 'Hrim' or 'Klim' to invoke specific energies. The phoneme 'a' in 'anima' signifies the unmanifest, while 'ni' denotes contraction, and 'ma' implies measurement, together forming a sonic representation of minimization. According to the Mantra Mahodadhi (a key tantric compendium), anima siddhi is achieved through prolonged japa (repetition) of the mantra with precise visualization of the body dissolving into atoms. The Shaktisangama Tantra also discusses anima as a power of the goddess Tripura Sundari, linking it to the subtle energy channels.

Traditional purposes include gaining mastery over the physical body, overcoming obstacles of space, and attaining spiritual freedom. Recommended chanting context: early morning or midnight, seated in a quiet space, facing east or north, with a rudraksha mala. The count is typically 108 repetitions per session, performed for 40 days or until the siddhi manifests. Cautions: this mantra should only be chanted under the guidance of a qualified guru, as misuse may lead to imbalance of the subtle elements.

It is not recommended for those seeking material gain alone, as the power is considered sacred and reserved for advanced spiritual aspirants.
