Dhana Vriddhi Mantra

धन वृद्धि मन्त्र
Also known as: Wealth Increase, Money Growth, Dhana Vriddhi
§ 01
Origin & Tradition

About this mantra

The Dhana Vriddhi Mantra is a sacred invocation aimed at the growth and multiplication of existing wealth. Its textual origins are found in the Lakshmi Tantra, a Vaishnava Agama text that details the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, and the Kubera Tantra, which focuses on Lord Kubera, the treasurer of the gods. The mantra is primarily associated with the deities Lakshmi and Kubera, who together govern prosperity and material abundance. The core bija (seed syllable) in the mantra is 'Shreem', which is the primary beeja of Lakshmi, representing radiance, wealth, and auspiciousness.

According to the Lakshmi Tantra, 'Shreem' is composed of the phonemes 'Sh' (the Shakti bija), 'R' (the Agni bija), and 'M' (the Ananda bija), together invoking the goddess's grace for continuous prosperity. The mantra 'Om Dhana Vriddhi Kuru Kuru Swaha' uses the imperative 'Kuru' (do, perform) repeated twice for emphasis, commanding the increase of wealth. The traditional purpose of this mantra is to enhance income, multiply assets, and ensure steady financial expansion. It is chanted for overcoming financial stagnation and attracting new opportunities for wealth generation.

Recommended chanting context includes reciting 108 times daily, preferably during the waxing moon phase (Shukla Paksha) and on auspicious days like Akshaya Tritiya and Diwali, as noted in the Kubera Tantra. The ideal time is early morning after bathing, facing east, with a clean altar and offerings of rice, flowers, and a lamp. Some traditions recommend chanting on a copper plate with a Shreem yantra. Cautions: This mantra should not be used for selfish hoarding or to harm others; it is intended for righteous wealth (dhana) that supports dharma.

Over-chanting without proper intent may lead to attachment. The Lakshmi Tantra advises that the mantra be received from a qualified guru and chanted with faith and purity of heart.
