The Kubera Nidhi Mantra refers to a set of dhyana mantras dedicated to the nine nidhis (treasures) of Kubera, the lord of wealth and the regent of the northern direction. These mantras are primarily found in the Kubera Purana and are also referenced in later tantric compilations such as the Mantra Mahodadhi. The nine nidhis are Padma, Mahapadma, Makara, Kachchapa, Mukunda, Nanda, Nila, Sankha, and Kharva, each representing a specific form of wealth, including gems, grains, and precious metals. According to the Kubera Purana, these nidhis are not merely material riches but also symbolize spiritual abundance and the fulfillment of desires. The beej-aksharas (seed syllables) embedded in each mantra, such as 'Om' and 'Namah', are designed to invoke the specific energy of each nidhi. For instance, 'Om Padma Nidhaye Namah' is chanted to attract the lotus-like prosperity that brings both material and spiritual growth. The traditional purpose of these mantras is to open the treasury of Kubera, remove financial obstacles, and bestow the blessings of the lord of wealth. They are recommended to be chanted during the auspicious periods of Dhanteras and Kubera Puja, ideally at dawn or dusk, with a count of 108 repetitions per nidhi using a rosary. Ritual setting includes a clean space with an image or yantra of Kubera, offerings of flowers and incense, and a focused mind. Cautions include the need for purity of intention and regularity, as these mantras are considered powerful and should not be chanted for selfish or harmful purposes. The Mantra Mahodadhi emphasizes that the practitioner must also cultivate generosity and detachment to fully receive the benefits. Thus, the Kubera Nidhi Mantra serves as a comprehensive tool for invoking the ninefold abundance of the universe.
