Mani Shastra Dhyana Mantra

मणि शास्त्र ध्यान मन्त्र
Also known as: Mani Shastra, Jewel Science, Sacred Stones

About

The Mani Shastra Dhyana Mantra is a meditative invocation used in the study of Mani Shastra, the ancient Indian science of jewels and sacred stones. This mantra is chanted to attune the practitioner to the subtle energies of gems, enabling the understanding of their mystical properties and the attainment of wealth and protection. The textual origins of this mantra are found in the Tantras, particularly the Mantra Mahodadhi and the Shaktisangama Tantra, which elaborate on the use of bija mantras for gem consecration. The mantra is associated with the deities Kubera, the lord of wealth, and Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity, who are invoked to bestow material abundance and spiritual grace through the medium of sacred stones. The beej-akshara (seed syllable) 'Om' is central, representing the primordial sound, while 'Mani' refers to the jewel itself, often linked to the Ratna (gem) as a symbol of purity and power. According to the Mantra-Yoga-Samhita, each gem corresponds to a specific planetary energy, and this dhyana mantra helps align the practitioner's consciousness with those cosmic forces. The traditional purpose of this mantra is to unlock the protective and wealth-attracting qualities of gems, as described in the Devi Mahatmya, where jewels are said to be the solidified essence of divine light. Chanting is recommended during auspicious times such as sunrise or on full moon days, with a count of 108 repetitions using a rudraksha mala. A ritual setting may include a clean altar with the specific gem placed before the practitioner, along with offerings of flowers and incense. Cautions include the need for purity of body and mind, as the mantra's power is amplified by the gem's energy; improper use may lead to imbalances. The Lalita Sahasranama also references the divine play of gems, underscoring their sacred nature. This mantra is best learned from a qualified guru who can guide the practitioner in the correct pronunciation and visualization.
