Nidhi Prapti Mantra

निधि प्राप्ति मन्त्र
Also known as: Treasure Mantra, Nidhi Attainment, Kubera's Treasure
§ 01
Origin & Tradition

About this mantra

The Nidhi Prapti Mantra is a sacred invocation directed toward Lord Kubera, the treasurer of the gods and the bestower of material abundance. According to the Kubera Purana, this mantra is specifically prescribed for the attainment of the nine nidhis (navanidhi) — the celestial treasures that include padma (lotus), mahapadma (great lotus), shankha (conch), makara (crocodile), kachchhapa (tortoise), mukunda (a gem), kunda (jasmine), nila (sapphire), and kharva (dwarf). These treasures are not merely material wealth but are said to represent spiritual and temporal prosperity. The mantra is often chanted with the beej-akshara 'Om' and the phrase 'Nidhi Pradayai Namah', which directly appeals to Kubera as the giver of treasures.

Phonetically, the repetition of dental and labial sounds in 'Pradayai' is believed to stimulate the earth element, grounding the practitioner's intention toward material manifestation. The Shaktisangama Tantra mentions that this mantra, when recited with proper devotion, can reveal hidden treasures and remove obstacles to wealth. Traditionally, the mantra is chanted 108 times daily, preferably at dawn or during the auspicious period of Dhanteras, which is dedicated to Kubera and Lakshmi. The recommended ritual setting includes a clean altar with an image or yantra of Kubera, offerings of yellow flowers, incense, and a lamp ghee.

Some traditions advise fasting on the day of chanting and maintaining celibacy for the duration of the sadhana. Cautions include avoiding chanting during inauspicious times like eclipses or after consuming non-vegetarian food, as the mantra's efficacy depends on purity of body and mind. The Devi Mahatmya also alludes to the power of such mantras in granting boons when chanted with unwavering faith. This mantra is pan-Indian in worship, with special prominence during Kubera Puja and Dhanteras.

It is important to note that the mantra is not for casual experimentation; it should be received from a qualified guru and practiced with sincerity to avoid adverse effects due to misuse of divine energies.
