Sankha Nidhi Dhyana Mantra (Final)

शङ्ख निधि ध्यान मन्त्र
Also known as: Sankha Nidhi, Conch Treasure, Wealth of Fame
§ 01
Origin & Tradition

About this mantra

The Sankha Nidhi Dhyana Mantra is a meditative invocation directed toward Sankha Nidhi, one of the nine treasures (nidhis) of Kubera, the lord of wealth. According to the Kubera Purana, Sankha Nidhi is the conch-shaped treasure that bestows fame, auspiciousness, and recognition. The conch (shankha) is a sacred symbol in Hindu tradition, associated with Lord Vishnu as a emblem of divine sound and victory. In the Vishnu Purana, the conch is described as the abode of the goddess Lakshmi and the source of prosperity. The mantra is chanted for contemplation of the conch as a symbol of fame and auspiciousness, aiming to attract recognition and the blessings of the treasure of fame.

The beej-akshara (seed syllable) 'Om' is used, representing the primordial sound and the essence of the deity. The phoneme 'Śaṅkha' invokes the conch itself, while 'Nidhaye' refers to the treasure, and 'Namaḥ' expresses salutation. Traditional purpose includes gaining renown, social status, and the removal of obstacles to fame. It is also believed to purify the atmosphere and bring positive vibrations. Recommended chanting context includes early morning after bathing, facing east, with a white or yellow cloth.

The ideal count is 108 repetitions using a crystal or conch mala. Ritual setting may involve offering white flowers, incense, and a lamp before an image of Kubera or Vishnu. Dhanteras, the first day of Diwali, is an especially auspicious time for this mantra. Cautions: The mantra should be chanted with pure intent and not for selfish aggrandizement. It is advised to maintain a sattvic diet and avoid negative speech.

The conch used in worship should be a genuine right-turning conch (dakshinavarti shankha) for maximum benefit.
