Vasudhara Mantra

वसुधारा मन्त्र
Also known as: Wealth Flow Mantra, Treasure Stream Mantra, Vasudhara Dharani
§ 01
Origin & Tradition

About this mantra

The Vasudhara Mantra is a sacred invocation dedicated to Goddess Vasudhara, a benevolent form of Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity. The name 'Vasudhara' is derived from Sanskrit: 'vasu' meaning 'wealth' or 'treasure', and 'dhara' meaning 'flow' or 'stream', thus signifying the continuous flow of abundance. This mantra is primarily chanted to attract and maintain a steady stream of financial resources, material comforts, and overall prosperity. The textual origin of this mantra is found in the Vasudhara Tantra, a scripture that elaborates on the worship and mantras of the goddess.

Additionally, the Lakshmi texts, such as the Lakshmi Tantra and the Devi Mahatmya, reference similar invocations for wealth. The beej-akshara (seed syllable) 'Shreem' (श्रीं) is central to this mantra, representing the divine energy of Lakshmi and the bestower of prosperity. The phoneme 'Shreem' is associated with the heart chakra and is believed to activate the flow of abundance. The mantra 'Om Vasudharaya Namah' is a simple salutation, while 'Om Shreem Vasudhare Swaha' combines the seed syllable with the goddess's name, used in homa (fire offerings) for immediate results.

According to the Vasudhara Tantra, chanting this mantra 108 times daily, especially during sunrise or on auspicious days like Akshaya Tritiya and Diwali, ensures the removal of financial obstacles and the attraction of wealth. The recommended ritual setting includes a clean space, a picture or idol of Vasudhara, and offerings of rice, flowers, and gold-colored items. Cautions: This mantra should be chanted with pure intentions and not for selfish gains, as misuse may lead to karmic repercussions. It is advised to maintain a disciplined practice and avoid chanting during impure states.

The mantra is widely worshiped across India, Nepal, and Tibet, where Vasudhara is also revered in Buddhist traditions as a wealth deity. The iconography depicts the goddess with wealth streaming from her hands, symbolizing the unending flow of treasures.
